Kart Silverstone, March 17, 2026 (I'm the one with the menacing yellow eyes on the helmet)

This year, I went to the UK for March Break for kart training. We started with a couple of days in London before heading to the track.

I got to see my first Premier League game at London Stadium, watching West Ham vs. Manchester City, which was really cool. We also went to a movie premiere for Project Hail Mary and had dinner at Jamie’s Italian. Not a bad way to start the trip!

Then we headed to Silverstone. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn where our room overlooked the track. Obviously there was no F1 cars on it while we were there, but you could feel the motorsports energy in every place in the hotel.

On Monday, I trained with KartSim running sessions at Hamilton Regional Karting Club, where I will race a couple of events this summer, and at Whilton Mill where I was headed for a session in two days' time. It was a really good way to learn the track and get comfortable with the layout before driving it in real life.

Tuesday was probably the most intense day. As part of my sessions with Protrain, I got invited to drive at the brand new Kart Silverstone track. It’s so new it wasn't even open to the public yet! So my first time driving a two-stroke kart was also my first time driving at a brand new track. No pressure 🤣

My first total write-off

The first session was going well… until I crashed.

After we got a replacement kart, I went back out for session three. There was a lot of traffic and really strong drivers from all over the world, which made it challenging but also really fun. I was the only driver wearing a Canadian flag 🇨🇦

Wednesday was a bit different. We went to Whilton Mill in person, and it was much quieter. There was only one other driver on the track in my group, so I got a lot more time for coaching and was able to do a lot of laps to work on what I learned the day before.

Over the course of the sessions, I was able to bring my average lap time down from a 57.6 to a 53.9, which felt like a big step forward.

It was great to have the time and training to really put everything into practice. Now that I'm back home, I can't wait to put everything I learned into practice when the 2026 season starts.

TRAK Race 1 is on April 11th. I'll see you on the track!
