We asked the community: What’s the NUMBER ONE thing you focus on when cornering?
Corner entry. Apex. Exit. There are a lot of elements to think about, but which one actually makes the difference?
We asked, and clear themes started to emerge. A lot of drivers came back to exit speed and looking ahead, with others focusing on balance and hitting key reference points.
Where drivers focus
“Exit, as you enter you should have already set your apex eyes ahead”
“Exit speed”

If you’re thinking about the exit as you approach the corner, it shapes what comes before it. Getting the exit right is what carries speed down the next straight.
“Apex”
The apex is often the reference point that ties the whole corner together. Hit it consistently and it becomes much easier to build the rest of the corner.
“Using all track width, having the right amount of understeer/oversteer to make it neutral steer, steering as little as possible, and having the right slip angle”
“Keeping the kart smooth, avoiding slides or tire skipping, and maintaining momentum”
Using the full track, minimizing steering input, and keeping the kart stable all point to a similar idea. The smoother the kart is through the corner, the more speed you can carry.
“Just look far ahead”
Where you’re looking influences how you drive the corner. Looking further ahead helps naturally connect entry, apex and exit.
“Ensuring parents have a great angle to capture in the photo”
A lighter answer, but it highlights something important. If you know what’s around you, you’re thinking ahead. And if it makes for a good photo, well, that’s a bonus.
Whether it’s exit speed, hitting the apex, maintaining balance, or simply looking further ahead, it all comes back to how the corner connects as a whole. The best drivers put everything from entry to exit together while thinking about what comes next.
If you have a different perspective, feel free to share it in the comments. Another question is coming up soon.
