Well... this one stings.
This trip to Mosport Karting Centre for Kartstars Canada was my first-ever away race. I spent some time learning the track in the simulator before race weekend, and that gave me a good starting point. But the real learning only started when I hit the actual track.
Finding the pace
Friday's practice sessions were really encouraging. Every time I went out, I learned a little more about the track and found a little more speed.
By Saturday's qualifying session, I improved my average lap time by 2.69 seconds (!!) compared to the day before.
It was proof that I was getting faster and more comfortable with the track every time I went out.

Race day challenges
The pace was getting there, but luck just wasn't on my side.
A brake failure ended my pre-final after just one lap. The team worked hard to get me back on track, and I was able to make the start of the final.
Then... an engine issue meant I spent most of the race just trying to bring the kart home. I did finish the race, but only in P12 😮💨 Definitely not the result I was hoping for.
I felt frustrated, but I reminded myself that every racer has tough days 🤷 The important thing is to learn from them and come back stronger.
Looking ahead
I'm choosing to focus on the positives from the weekend. I learned a brand-new track, got experience racing away from my home track at Goodwood, and made some real progress over the weekend.
Now it's back to Goodwood for a race this weekend and then back to the simulator to get ready to return to Mosport for Round 2 of the Ontario Inter-Club Challenge on June 26 & 27.
I'm looking forward to having another shot 💪
A big thank you to Team UltraKart and my sponsors: TDot Wraps, Glasslake Funding, NGD Services, Durham Wealth Planning Group and Clarke Engineering. Thanks to your support, I can continue to develop as a driver by branching out to new karting destinations.
